WHAT IS IT? WHAT ARE CAUSES/ SYMPTOMS AND/OR SIGNS?

Skin pores are tiny openings in the skin that function to release perspiration and oil (sebum) to cool and condition the body. With up to half a million pores per square centimetre on the skin’s surface, the excessive or increased flow of sweat and oil can overstretch the elasticity of the pore, resulting in the appearance of multiple enlarged pores. Pores can become so enlarged that they can create unattractive craters.

Increased sebaceous activity produced during puberty stimulates oil flow particularly on the nose, forehead and chin areas (the T-Zone). Whilst these are traditionally the most common areas for enlarged pores, they can occur anywhere on the body on all skin types and conditions.

Other factors that increase the appearance of enlarged pores include:
Genetics
Seborrhoea (excessive, thickened oil flow)
Blackheads
Whiteheads
Acne
Extractions or squeezing

TREATMENT SOLUTIONS

SKIN NEEDLING

Skin Needling is an effective method for the reduction of enlarged pores. By safely penetrating deeply into the underlying layers of skin, Skin Needling kick starts the body’s natural wound healing response, producing and distributing new collagen, plumping up the enlarged pore and making them smaller.

MICRODERMABRASION

Microdermabrasion removes dead and dry skin cells from the surface of the skin which reduces congestion that leads to enlarged pores. It is especially effective for blackheads that are the main culprits of enlarged pores. This technique also stimulates the growth of collagen, which promotes healthy-looking skin.

CHEMICAL PEELS

Chemical Peels provide a suitable option to treat mild to moderate enlarged pores. Containing alpha hydroxyl or beta hydroxyl acids, Chemical Peels effectively remove dead skin and promote “new” skin, reducing the appearance of enlarged pores.
